Carolyn J. Smith (84) died peacefully on Saturday, September 6, 2025. Carolyn was born to Margaret Helen and Harry Ray Jones on March 21, 1941, in Trussville Al.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James Richard (Dick) Smith, Sr., her son, James Richard Smith, Jr, brother William Felix Jones and sister Carmen Denice Turner.

She leaves behind her daughter Andrea (Andi) Smith DeFelice and son in law Frank DeFelice, Daughter in law, Laura Smith, grandchildren Magnolia Smith (Maddy), Carson Carter (Bailey), Patricia Dingus (Charlie) and Emily McLain (Houston) sister Connie Jones Harbor (Don) brother Robert Carlton(Bobby) Jones (Beth) and sister in law Kathy H. Jones (Chris), along with several nieces and nephews.

Carolyn lived her life fully and completely. She had a deep faith and shared that with many during her time as leader of the Bible Study Fellowship Organization. She served the Methodist Church in many leadership roles throughout her life. She was an active member of Trinity Chapel on Tybee Island.

Carolyn was involved in the leadership of the Rising Tyde food pantry for many years and volunteered with the Tybee Island YMCA anytime assistance was needed.

Calling Carolyn active is an understatement. In years past she could be seen roller blading or biking around Tybee Island, participating in exercise classes at the Tybee YMCA, dancing with the Tybee Beach Chair Brigade, annually competing in the Rock and Roll marathons, the Tybee Polar Plunge, the annual bridge run and any other opportunity to be outside and moving. She was an avid gardener; her flower beds and lawn were envious.

Carolyn relished the role of Grandmother the most. Maggie and Carson grew up with such a force of nature in their “Mommom” Be it paddle boarding, bike riding, being on the boat or just hanging out, they benefited so much from her unconditional love and support,

Professionally, Carolyn was the Broker/Owner of Exclusive Buyer’s Realty, Inc. for 30 years, assisting hundreds of people achieve the joy of home ownership.

She was a dear and dedicated friend to so many and truly loved everyone she met.

A visitation will begin 10:00a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11:00a.m. at Fox & Weeks Islands Chapel on Friday, September 19, 2025. 

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Rising Tyde Community Food Pantry, P. O. Box 2832, Tybee Island, GA 31328, Trinity Chaple Methodist Church, P. O. Box 1203 Tybee Island, GA 31328 or the charity of your choice.
